Ming Thing

Ming Thing is a very unusual monstrose cactus that has won our hearts!

I’ve been interested in these guys for a while, but it wasn’t until today that Rich and I finally bought one. Cereus forbesii monstrose, commonly called “Ming Thing” cactus, I assume because it resembles a jade sculpture, is relatively easy to find for sale and lots of fun to examine. Knobs bubble out from graceful central columns, and areoles and spines are seemingly randomly placed along the branches. The skin of the cactus has a blue cast that contrasts well with the fuzzy white areoles and black spines. It will be fun to watch this one grow!
